Welcome

Googong is a new self-contained township on about 800ha of land 8km south of Queanbeyan CBD being developed as a joint venture between Peet and Mirvac. It will be constructed over 20 years, and will eventually be home to around 18,000 people by around 2034.

This website has been developed to support construction activity for the Integrated Water Cycle (IWC) system that will deliver potable water, recycled water and sewage services to the township.

It addresses one of the requirements of the IWC Project’s approval granted under Part 3A Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 whereby the public is provided access to statutory and technical documentation for an approved project.

Project status

Construction of Stage C of the IWC was completed and handed over to Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) and Icon Water in 2018. It currently provides water, wastewater and recycled water services for the first 9,400 residents in the Googong township. Stage D will increase capacity of the IWC to serve all of Googong Township. Stage D received project approval from QPRC under Part 5 of the EP&A Act in August 2020.

Integrated Water Cycle (IWC) Project

Googong’s Integrated Water Cycle (IWC) system provides water and wastewater services for the township. It has been designed to meet best practice water conservation outcomes and means that Googong’s 18,000 residents will use less water than 7,200 residents would normally use in an average Australian community. It will reduce potable (drinking) water consumption by around 60%, and recycle well over half of the wastewater generated to irrigate open spaces in the township.

The system comprises a Water Recycling Plant, bulk water and sewage pumping stations, reservoirs and network pipes that will be constructed in three stages as the population of the township grows.
